Arcadia in Greece
The Arcadia in Greece program provides an environment that will enable you to learn about Greece - its language, history and culture. You'll discover the issues and concerns that are shaping Greece today. Small classes, close contact with professors and living in a Greek neighborhood are just some of the characteristics that make the Arcadia Athens Center program such a wonderful study abroad opportunity. It's an ideal program to introduce you to a fascinating country, whether you've always been interested in the classics, you want a different perspective on Europe, or you just want to study someplace that has a very distinct culture.
Arcadia Advantage
The Arcadia Athens Center delves into Greek history, politics and culture throughout the ages. In Athens, learning isn't just about sitting in the classroom. It's about gaining hands-on experience. Many courses incorporate field-study excursions to sites of historical and cultural importance so you'll be able to see first-hand the landmarks and places that have inspired and influenced the people and events you'll study. Our cornerstone course, the Greek Key was designed to aid students in the cross-cultural learning process and involves students in Greek community life. You do not need to speak Greek to enroll in the program at the Arcadia Athens Center. All courses, with the exception of the Greek language courses (mandatory for all students), are taught in English.
At the Arcadia Athens Center, you'll learn from accomplished instructors who have extensive experience working with study abroad students and who live, work, and study in Athens themselves. Each faculty member has a knowledge of the similarities and differences between North American and Greek cultures and will understand your needs and concerns. You'll meet more of our experienced staff, including our resident director, Dr. Jan Sanders.
You'll enjoy the Arcadia Athens Center's central location, which is within walking distance of Syntagma (Constitution) Square, a bustling commercial area and the governmental core of Athens. Moreover, when you need to undertake research, you'll appreciate the Center's close proximity to the National Library, the American School of Classical Studies, and the British School of Archaeology.
In addition to your academic studies, the Arcadia Athens Center will help you take advantage of many low-cost, culturally-enriching activities that are available at nearby facilities. For instance, you can enroll in non-credit drama and theater classes at the Higher School of Dramatic Arts, observe the Voule (Parliament), or attend lectures given by our faculty at local Greek universities. Not only will you have a great time, you'll also learn more about the Greek way of life.
